SGM and Making Mead

SGM meeting to discuss annual subscriptions for the coming year followed by an evening about Making Mead with Douglas Nethercleft.

Brother Adam of Buckfast Abbey fame was of the opinion that mead should be laid down for six years after which it would then be at its best. Michael Badger in his erudite tome “Mead and Honey Wines” states that the best meads are made from the best honeys.

2025 has been a bumper year for honey and you may well have, say, 4 lbs that you can put aside and try your hand at creating this potable hive product.

Whatever the case, you are cordially invited to the SGM on Friday 26th of September when, after the necessary business has been conducted, member Douglas Nethercleft will de-mystify the process of Mead Making and bring along a variety for you to sample.

Douglas, by the way, is a firm believer that the best meads are those drunk in company at Christmas in front of a roaring log fire!
